Helping Your Child Become a Reader by Donna Scanlon, Kimberly Anderson, et al.

The goal of this booklet is to provide caregivers with some information about how they can help young learners become readers and writers. We address some of the common questions and concerns that caregivers pose. The questions often focus on how to help children learn to read and spell individual words. While this is certainly important, it is also important to keep in mind that communication is the ultimate purpose of reading and writing. Therefore, when reading and writing to or with children, it is important to help them think about the meaning of what is being read or written.
