[A]bout 34–69 million of the school-aged population struggle with reading worldwide. Weak reading skills of individuals with RD affect not only their enjoyment of reading but also their achievement in other areas such as mathematics and science, as well as their social adjustment. Moreover, RD that appear very early on reverberate throughout a child’s educational career  and are associated with undesirable post-school outcomes such as low income and poor health.
